Location Litzendorf-Hohenellern, Germany

One of the biggest issues of our time is the sustainable generation of energy to produce electricity and heat without using and depleting fossil resources. One of the renewable energy sources that can be used is wind power. Together with UmweltBank and its green financing scheme, the wind farm in Litzendorf could be planned and built with the initiators behind the citizen wind farm project.

A passion for wind power and environmental protection

The driving force behind the wind farm project is Marcus Dornauer from the small town of Neustadt an der Aisch who is incumbent CEO of Bürgerwindpark Hohenellern Verwaltungs GmbH, the company managing this citizen wind farm project. For over 10 years, he has been passionately committed to citizen and municipal projects involved in the use of wind power. Following eight years of careful planning, consideration and construction, the wind power plant, situated in the Upper Franconian community of Litzendorf, was finally connected to the grid in the summer of 2016.

Funding – but how? UmweltBank makes it possible

A financing plan was drawn up in intensive exchange with committed and expert UmweltBank employees with a special focus on one particularly important point: the issue of start-up capital financing.  Those involved in the citizen wind farm could not alone raise the starting capital to finance the high costs of the project and required professional support.

You need a strong partner at your side to finance a wind power project. The initiators behind the citizen wind farm in Litzendorf were well aware of this fact. Together with UmweltBank and its green financing program, the wind farm in Litzendorf could be successfully planned and built.
